Quote from Nacho on March 1, 2022, 10:07 amOne thing I have never understood is the amount of team points that wrestlers can score at the state tournament. I believe it is different than points awarded for dual wins, correct? Does anyone know how many points a team will get for a wrestle back win vs. a semi-final win or how that all works (advancement points, 1st place bonus, etc.)?

Quote from Fat125 on March 1, 2022, 12:03 pmOn the winners side, you get 2 points for advancement plus bonus points (1 for a major, 1.5 for a tech, and 2 for a fall). On the back side, you have 1 point advancement plus bonus. So to answer your question, it depends on how they win. A fall on the back side can be worth 3 points, while a decision on the front side is worth 2 points. But we also have placing points to toss in and it can get a little complicated to explain without picking a specific wrestler to look at.

Quote from chalk on March 1, 2022, 12:38 pmEight places in each weight class will be scored at the State Tournament. Scoring will be as follows:
First place - 16 points
Second place - 12 points
Third place - 9 points
Fourth place - 7 points
Fifth place - 5 points
Sixth place - 3 points
Seventh place - 2 points
Eighth place - 1 point4. Advancement and additional points, for team scoring, are awarded as follows:
a. 2 team advancement points shall be scored for each match won in the championship bracket, except for the
final first-place match. A wrestler receives a bye in a round, where at least one match is wrestled, shall be
awarded 2 advancement points for that round if he wins his next match - this would result in a total of 4 team
points (2 for the win and 2 for the bye). No points are awarded for the bye if the wrestler loses the next match
following the bye.
b. 1 team advancement point shall be awarded for each match won in the consolation elimination, except for
the final third place match. A wrestler who has received a bye in a consolation round, where at least one
match is wrestled, shall receive one advancement point, provided he wins his next round match - this would
result in a total of 2 team points (1 for the win and 1 for the bye.)
c. 2 additional points shall be scored for each match won by default, disqualification, fall or forfeit throughout
the tournament.
d. 1 1/2 additional points shall be scored for each match won by a technical fall.
e. 1 additional point shall be awarded for each match won by a major decision.

(Regular Decision)
Consolation Bracket - 1 point
(Regular Decision)
Major Decision: 1 point
Technical Fall: 1 1/2 points
Fall, Default, Forfeit, & Disqualification: 2 points
Bye followed by a win: Championship Bracket - 2 points
Consolation Bracket - 1 pointTournaments with Eight Places: First Place - 16 points; Second Place - 12 points; Third Place - 9 points; Fourth Place - 7 points; Fifth Place - 5 points; Sixth Place - 3 points Seventh Place - 2 points and Eighth place - 1 point
So when a wrestler Wins their first-round match at state they would get 2pts for their team, if they win they may get bonus if winning be 8 or more 1 extra and if they win by 15 (Tech Fall) they get 1.5 bonus and if they win by Fall they would earn 2 extra... for a grand total of 4 points max. Second round (quarters) if they win they get 2 advancement points plus bonus like before... but have now earned a minimum of 6th place so they get those points too... so 2+3 plus bonus if earned. Next round (Semi's) if they win and make it to the Finals they get 2 points advancement and the difference in 6th and 2nd guaranteed which is 9 pts. Summary someone could earn between 11 and 13 pts for that win. The wrestle-backs offer less for advancement... only 1 pt but bonuses stay the same.
I started writing this right after the first post was entered... now notice someone else added... hopefully, some of this helps.
