Quote from gearymc on September 29, 2021, 8:28 pmDakota State University is planning on adding Golf and Soccer, and building a new athletic facility.
I suggested to the AD, Jeff Dittman, that it could also be a good time to bring back wrestling with a women's program as well. The men's program was dropped in the 80s.
My understanding of Jeff's response is that he does not believe there is enough interest in wrestling.
I suspect, being a basketball guy himself, he has not been around many gyms when they were packed with wrestling families, or been to the AAU state tournament.
If you are interested in seeing our wrestling men and women have another venue in the state to pursue their higher education (at a public university tuition rate), consider sending Jeff a photo of a packed gym wrestling event. Jeff's email is Jeff.Dittman@dsu.edu if you wish, you could cc me on the email Mark.Geary@dsu.edu
Spread the word to your youth wrestling boards, groups and facebook pages. I believe the sport will be stronger for having more collegiate opportunities for kids.

With the start of the girls high school state, it would be a great time to continue to grow women's wrestling in the state as well as in the midwest area. Minnesota has a lot of tough gals as well.

I think starting with a women's program is a easier start...but another consideration is how many students the new program(s) would be likely to bring in. Jeff estimated the costs for just a women's program at over 200k per year.

Quote from Dragr on November 8, 2021, 10:05 amI would love for them to have that here as I go to college here because they are the only school around with my specific major and I had to choose between wrestling in college or getting the right degree so it would be great to do both even if its just for 1 year.

That would be awesome but I have no idea how to do that or even how to start. As I am already interested in helping Madison high school that way I can stay with the sport some how.

Also as being a Student here I think their would be more guys that would wrestle than women as of the people I see in general
