I just read on an MMA website that Dana White plans on having a "superfight" between GSP and Anderson Silva if the two can successfully defend their title in their next matches. We all know that Anderson kicked a field goal with Belfort's head, so GSP just needs to defend his title in April against Jake Shields. If this happens, White said, "The two will have cleaned out their divisions. Having a rare champ vs. champ fight between the two just seems right, and it'll probably happen." So let's all hope GSP can take care of business so we can see this gem. I am not a Silva fan, so obviously I want GSP to win. However, after seeing Silva split the uprights against Vitor I am not so sure GSP can beat Silva. He just has so much in his arsenal, but then again GSP has exactly the style that Anderson is weak against. I guess we just all have to cross our fingers and hope this fight happens so this topic can be settled once and for all. JON "BONES" JONES FTW!

By the way, White said this would happen at Middleweight, and GSP would most likely stay at that weight class.

GSP is more of what Chael Sonnen is.

Let's face it.  Anderson Silva got his rear end kicked vs.  Sonnen.  He had no answer for the takedowns, couldn't defend himself on the bottom.  Silva won....but Lehmann beat Storely also. I guess one could make the argument that Lehmann was just biding his time, knowing he'd catch Storley sooner or later.

Those of you that are predicting Silva....what fight are you envisioning?  GSP trying to take Silva down and and failing because Silva has stellar takedown defense?    GSP not even attemping a takedown?

When this fight happens, I'll take all bets up to my balance (like 10,000 credits or so)

I really would love to see Anderson get beat. But I don't think GSP is the one to do it.
The comparison of GSP and Sonnen is relatively unfounded as GSP has neither the size, strength, or wrestling ability of Sonnen.

The size of Anderson in addition to his excellent movement and striking will more than match GSP on the feet and his BJJ will serve him should GSP get the takedown.

Size? What size?  The size that GSP is when he fights at sucked down to 170?  Or the GSP that could carry 185+ lbs like most of us could carry a kleenex.

Strength?  Show me where you found this info.

Wrestling abiltiy?  Which wresting ability?  The wrestling ability that it takes to win a D1 Tourney, or the wrestling ability it that it takes to run roughshod over the likes of Matt Hughes x 2, BJ Penn x 2, Sean Sherk, Jon Fitch,  & Josh Koschek?

IN reply to the above:

Sonnen has more size than GSP because no matter what, GSP is naturally a welterweight. Sonnen has the ability to fight at 205 if he so willed (and has so in the past). Sonnen is 6'1. GSP is 5'10. To say that GSP will be bigger than Sonnen once he moves to 185 is stupid.

Strength is the most unfounded of my claims. I have no evidence to prove but would argue that with the size advantage, plus the experience of fighting the larger opponents (respectively), Chael is the physically stronger fighter.

Pure wrestling is not even a debate. Chael is a D1 All American, 2 time Greco Roman Nat. Champion, and an Olympic Alternate. GSP holds no traditional wrestling credentials. You could make the argument that GSP is the better "MMA wrestler" but until he proves it against an opponent of Anderson Silvas quality, I give the edge to Chael.

So are you thinking Anderson would stop GSP's takedowns?

If I had to guess I'd say no. The problem I see, much like the fight with Chael is getting the takedown without eating some vicious strikes. RD 3 (i think) Chael ate that nasty elbow that dropped him. Situations like that are all Anderson needs. On the otherhand, GSP could (avoiding too much damage on the feet) implement a game plan similar to Sonnen's with a huge advantage towards him: Sub=defense.

Don't get me wrong, Well Armed, its not that GSP can't beat Anderson, it's just that I feel he won't. Not that he isn't capable of it. And believe me, no one wants to see Anderson lose (to anyone) more than me.
