I am wondering why ND's tournaments are so late in the wrestling season. SD starts there schedule on the 1st of January, there are tournaments every weekend thereafter. District, Region and State AAU start the weekend after SD High School State. ND does not seem to get their youth going until the high school season is over. Why?

Very good question, I will see if I can sum it up for you. AAU vs. USA AAU in SD is for the most part only a Folkstyle tourney and very seldom do you see very many kids over 14 at the tourneys and at State. USA in ND is Folkstyle, Greco, and Freestyle and you will see more of the kids in those older ages competing at the local tournaments and at the State tourney. With that being said there are a lot of coaches and wrestlers pretty busy with the Varsity teams until their season is over. I would myself like to see the season get started earlier so maybe we could finish up the youth season by the 1st of April instead of dragging it out until the end of April. No matter what I would like to see, I will still be there to support my sons no matter what time of the year it is. Hope this helps!!!  |

Please note that is also the weekend of Kids State Folkstyle tourney in Bismarck. Granted, it is a USA sanctioned tourney, but it does draw the best wrestlers from across the state. This is the best place to see all the future HS kids together in one place. Hope to see everyone there.

Why do teams schedule tournaments on the weekend of the youth state tournament. I would like to see all the youth kids at state with 16 or 32 man brackets. We want all the best at state so we know who is the true champion.
