Madison Square Garden Night - Friday 1/18
« on: January 18, 2013, 01:56:38 AM »
For those wrestling fans out there looking for something to do on Friday night, come to Madison to take in a match under one of the most unique atmosphere's in the state for a dual.  A packed gym, rediculously loud music played at ever stop in the action, 1 big light over the mat, 1000 glow sticks, stats in prom dresses, and loud fans makes the night trully one of 1 of a kind.  This year Madison hosts Harrisburg and Chamberlain in a Triangular.  Madison will wrestle Harrisburg at 5:30, Chamberlain and Harrisburg will wrestle at about 6:30, and then Madison and Chamberlain will wrestle in the Madison Square Garden match at about 7:30.

I don't know if anyone has posted something about this yet, if they have, my bad but I couldn't find anything. I hope the young man is alright.
He has all of the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.

First and foremost I am glad the kid is ok and that many people rushed in to help the boy out.   Turning a duel into a circus will hopefully be a thing of the past moving forward.

The light hanging over the mat seems to be a thing that more teams are doing.  It seems pretty risky when you see how some teams are doing it.  They basically throw a wire or rope over the rafter beams, and attach a light to it as a temporary fixture hanging from an extension cord .  I wonder how many of these meet OSHA requirements.
The ones I have seen look like a bad idea.  I wouldn't think the school district would let anyone do this considering the liablilty. They are lucky the 'top guy' was not coming into the referee's position or he would have taken the blow entirely to his head.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

This has been a fun and successful event for 27 years and hopefully we can take care of the safety issues and it will continue to be a great event that lets the whole community enjoy a great evening of fun and our sport of wrestling.
