Sorry,  every state tournament I have been to I have either Wrestled in lie, worked at lie or was coaching at lie.  Not really paying attention to bag searchers.  Next time have her stick the apple down her pants you are an a55hole, dont think they are doing full body searches.  Yes, the food is overpriced, there are many places to eat cheaper within 5 blocks of the Arena.

Well i can say gruis from tv won in 2nd round wrestle backs in regulation because of his aggressive stalling calls. I don't think any other ref would of rung that kid up with 50 second when he was down try to escape down 2-1.
Just Wrestle!!!!

I hate TV timeouts at the state tournament

I like the fact that we get TV timeouts.  Remember when it wasn't televised.  This is great for the sport.  Small sacrifice to live with!

I can only imagine the positive influence and input you have to project on the Tennessee wrestling community. Stick to Soddy Daisey wrestling and leave here.

oyen should of been nailed before that anyway, he wresled conservative the whole match. Kudos to the ref to make them wrestle. And you hate coaches that dont dress up???????????   I thought you are suppose to watch the wrestlers not what the coaches are wearing.

The absolute worst stalling call I have ever seen.  Jorgensen should be ashamed of himself.

Really, I would say that the calls on Gillette last year were far worse than the ones you speak of

Tell us your name and we could find out whether your lying or not.

If we didn't have Doug Wright around, there would be a lot of kids that never reached their potential. He has been a staple of the SD wrestling community since before I first picked up a pair of wrestling shoes. He has been the coach of multiple national teams, donated countless hours of his time for the good of the sport, whether in season or out. What have you done besides get on here and just raise h$ll? Do us all a favor and either clean up your act, or stick to Tennessee.

Sorry,  every state tournament I have been to I have either Wrestled in, worked at or was coaching at.  Not really paying attention to bag searchers.  Next time have her stick the apple down her pants, dont think they are doing full body searches.  Yes, the food is overpriced, there are many places to eat cheaper within 5 blocks of the Arena.

One other thing I thought was interesting I was also watching the B's online and they actually turned off the lights except the one over the mat giving the atmosphere a better feeling for wrestling but for the A's they had all the lights on. Whats was up with that?

And to hear the tournament will be held in Watertown next year, it seems like they get the tournament every other year.  When will they stop holding state there, its way too small and cramped.  Cant they just be happy with Rapid, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen?

Aberdeen can't. You must not have ever attended a state tournament there, otherwise you would know this. What do you do if your a student? Students aren't allowed to leave the area during a round. If they do, they are not allowed back in.

With the thing with Watertown, I always hear about problems, but as long as They(SDHSAA) keeps making money from having the A's there, they won't quit going there. The B's can't have it there anymore because more people attend the B's and the A's. Not bashing on the A's, its just fact. More schools, with one or two kids making it, usually the whole team follows to support the wrestlers. Less teams in the A's, they are a little more top heavy too.

Maybe if you actually knew something about SD wrestling, you wouldn't be so ignorant. Leave please.

The absolute worst stalling call I have ever seen. .......

If I had to add one to the mix, it would be the ambiguity of the "stalling" call.

imo, it's use varies greatly from ref to ref, and if a kid gets rapid fire stalling calls, it really gets in his head, and rarely does that wrestler seem to win.

In my perfect world, the ref gives one warning, and calls a timeout the next time. The ref then tells the "staller" (and maybe the coach, too) what is expected of him, and then penalize, if it continues, along the guidelines he explained to the wrestler (and coach). This would minimize the varied expectations from ref to ref.

Oh, and crtdavis, good to see your making more friends  ;)

Also, refs calling stalling as an equalizer.  If a wrestler is up by one with 30 seconds left, they will ding him for stalling.  Some even two stalling calls (including the equalizer point) within that 30 seconds.  If the ref think he is stalling then give him a warning earlier in the match.  If that wrestler wrestles well enough to be up by 1 point, what is that wrestler suppose to do besides stall, shoot and give the opponent a chance to score?

The TV timeouts are a pain, but I was happy to have the finals televised. Today I had at least six people tell me that they watched the tournament, and these are not what I would call fans of wrestling. By televising the finals, we might start to build up our fan base. More fans=more wrestlers. More wrestlers=better competition. Better competition=better tournaments. Better tournaments=even more fans. And those fans will create more demand to seed the state tournament.

Wait, perhaps I don't want the tournament to be televised!   ;D

I agree that stalling, and the out of bounds call, should be looked at. Try and make them a bit easier for the officials to determine. Then they can be applied more evenly.
But I question whether the official should have to explain to the athlete, or the coach what is expected after the warning. Shouldn't they basically know what is expected?

The clock went from :18 to :13 with wrestler A (top in referee's position) attempting to break down wrestler B.  Wrestler A was out to the side with a tight waist digging for a half.  Wrestler b never attempted a sit-out or stand-up, basically just posted to all 4's.  Please watch a replay and then come back with an opinion.  If this is stalling, you cannot wrestle in the top position without stalling.

I think it was a make up call for not calling when they were in the sitting position prior to that restart.

He correctly called that situation a stalemate.  I would hope there is no such thing as a "make up call" in a state championship match.
