Pierre Youth Wrestling Invitational
« on: February 03, 2012, 06:25:25 PM »
Just a reminder that the Pierre Youth Wrestling Invitational tournament is being held on February 12th this year.  The flyer for the tournament is attached.  Please not that:

        1. District style bracketing is being used this year to ensure that kids are matched up by the weights that are used during postseason competition;
        2. Weight classes with smaller brackets will be grouped accordingly (not to exceed 10% body weight limit for wrestlers)
        3. College wrestlers from the DWU program will serve as the officials for the tournament;
        4.  13-14 and the final rounds for the 11-12 division will be held in the auxiliary gym where two full mats will only have four tables;
        5. Pre-registration is not required;

Any questions, please contact pault@sdbor.edu

We have added some additional narrative to the tournament flyer to reflect a few questions we have received about bracketing.  The information is posted below, but an updated flyer has been added to our website and posted below.

  • In some situations, brackets will be merged together to ensure adequate competition (not to exceed 10% body weight difference among wrestlers).
    To avoid weight classes that would require 32 man brackets large weight classes will be divided into A and B divisions based on experience level indicated at sign-up (state qualifiers, state place winner, etc.)

I appreciate the efforts that PYW is making to mimic district brackets.  Will individual wrestlers' weights be posted on the brackets?  It would be beneficial to track additional wrestlers in the event that your wrestler is bracketed in a "catch weight" bracket or a split bracket as mentioned above.

In response to Dittos, our plan is to only group weights together in situations where only 1 or 2 kids are in adjacent weight classes.  Joining together should ensure that they are able to get matches in.  We will likely list them as joined weight classes (i.e., 60-65 Novice) and can denote the weights of the wrestlers on the bracket so that people are aware.  We don't anticipate having to do this with very many weight classes.

Thank you SCFormer. Posting weights would be helpful.  PYW tournaments are always well done with attention to detail.  We are looking forward to it.
P.S.  I hear the walking tacos are the bomb!

Ditto, those were "basketball" walking tacos. Wrestlers know best about correct food preparation :)

Despite fewer numbers than anticipated the tournament went very well today.  It was nice to have decent weather which Pierre hasn't seen for their tournament in the past couple of years.  BTW, momof3 the taco food preparation was well done!  No GI problems at this time to report.  :D
