Yes, a very good dual team is not going to state for the dual tourney, however, they can still win a state title.  No whining, no complaining, Lisbon and South Border deserve to be where they are.  This is not the first time a very good dual team isn't competing at state.  If we were the second best basketball team in the state and got beat in region finals by the best team in the state, our season would be over.  But this is wrestling, and part of what makes this the best sport is the team and the individual aspects.  Good luck to the region 1 teams in the duals, make us proud.  Good luck to the Oakes boys for the individual title!

Not makin any excuses but having a bad day may in part be due to having two very good starters sitting out with injuries.

Look for the Tornadoes to have a very strong showing this weekend at Regions and the following week at State.  Coach Schall is a master at getting his kids ready to go, to come back from disappointments and overcome challenges.

Haha just because you preface it with not making any excuses doesn't mean you aren't actually making excuses.  Not saying you're not right because obviously having two starters sitting makes a world of difference.  I just always think it's funny.  Same thing when people say "No offense, but..."  Oakes is a great team, but they were the third best team last Saturday simple as that.

A good dual team from region 1 has staid home that could/  would've placed in the top five. Lets not take anything away from south boarder and Lisbon. The came and showed up. Yes oakes had an off day, but you have to show up at the region and state.

I am a little taken back by these comments.  In no other post did I see anyone complaining about the fact that Oakes took 3rd.  In fact all I've seen is well wishes to Lisbon and South Border and nice comments about how Oakes as a whole is down right classy.  Why rub it in that they took 3rd....big deal....seems to me like you guys need to get over it.
Good luck to all of Region 1!

in response to dakotadazzle, don't take these comments overboard.  if you're from Oakes or Lisbon, you understand why the little jabs have to be taken here and there...cause it feels pretty good to be the winner of that battle.  it goes both ways.  you'll see that after Oakes wins the Ind title. :)
DISCLAIMER: THE ABOVE COMMENT IS MERELY AN OPINION AND IS NO WAY MEANT TO DIMINISH LIL JOHNNY'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS OR LACK THEREOF ON THE MAT.

Most definitely meant as a little rivalry jab.  Oakes and Lisbon have been fierce rivals throughout the years.  I wasn't rubbing it in I was making a playful comment about how I thought what he said was humorous to me.  If I would have meant to rub it in I would have focused on how they were the 3rd best team in the region instead of specifically quoting the day of Saturday.  I have already stated on the grappler that I thought there were four amazing teams from region one and that you wouldn't know on any given day who would win.  I'm not one to rub someone's face in the dirt, but if we can have a little laugh by acknowledging funny mannerisms like "No excuses, but..." or "No offense, but..." just to make what they say more polite when in reality that's what they are and that's fine.  It's just a simpler way of saying in other circumstances things may not have turned out like they did.  Which can be a completely true statement and shouldn't have to be defended as being impolite.  Truth is with two starters Oakes may have won.  It's an excuse, but not an excuse for losing just an excuse for why they don't feel they wrestled up to their teams full potential.  Or at least that is how I look at it.

Go ahead and count out Oakes for the ind. title if you want.  How many people expected them to win it last year or the year before?  By the way the Oakes/Lisbon rivalry is still obviously there but it isn't anywhere near where it used to be.  And yeah having two good kids on the pine is an excuse i said it, but i'd say a damn good one.  Little Pauly you aren't old enough to remember when the rivalry was at it's finest, save us the junk please.

If you factor in having erhlin and Coleman in I still see Oakes losing to south border and Lisbon. South border and Lisbon were the better teams that day,no excuses.

Man you got pretty fired up.  If you are referring to me saying Oakes has no chance to win an Individual title than you need to read.  Never mentioned anything about the individual tournament.  If not you still need to read because it's spelled Little Paulie.  I could care less how old a person is.  I've been around wrestling for as long as I can remember.  My entire family has been a part of wrestling.  I understand that it's not as heated and bitter as you remember.  Then again you probably think when you were in high school that wrestling was the toughest its ever been and ever will be, you seem to be that type of arrogant person.  As for my junk, I took a look back at some of your posts and for someone who was a new ref in 2009 you sure run your mouth a lot about high school wrestlers.  Then again I'd be willing to bet you didn't make it out of that year of reffing?  I understand it's pretty tough to suit up and do the work when you can just come on the grappler and relive your hayday huh?  Just heating up the rivalry a bit  8)

Has there ever been any discussion to allow the region 5th place wrestlers to "challenge" the 4th place wrestler if they had not wrestled during the region tournament (just like the the 3rd place region dual team is allowed to challenge the 2nd place region dual team if they hadn't wrestled that day).  Yesterday in Region 1 a few 5th place wrestlers fell into this predicament.  They work hard all year and I like to see them settle it on the mat and not via the luck of the draw.
